Pipeline Project, Winter Prices Among Topics At Energy Summit

Organizers say today's New Hampshire Energy Summit in Concord will look at whether the state can avoid volatility in energy prices this winter.

Concerns about the region’s natural gas capacity a year ago prompted several utilities to proposed sharp price increases, followed by large drops in gas and oil prices.

The summit will also look at the proposed Northeast Energy Direct Pipeline, which if completed could carry up to 1.3 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day through parts of southern New Hampshire.

Late last week the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission approved a proposal from Liberty Utilities to buy space in the pipeline. But there are continued calls to block the pipeline proposal from some residents in the communities through which it would run.

Governor Maggie Hassan and U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen are among the speakers at the summit.
