Seabrook Nuclear Plant

The owners of the Seabrook Station nuclear power plant and the union representing 226 workers there have reached a contract agreement to avert a lockout.

Utility Workers Union of America Local 555 President Ted Jenis says the agreement was reached Sunday and will be voted on by members on Thursday. The plant had said the workers would have been locked out if they didn't accept a contract by midnight Monday.

Jenis says the agreement includes 2.25 percent raises each year for three years. The union says the company will not eliminate fire brigade leaders, which was a sticking point in the negotiations. The agreement gives both sides until the end of 2014 to agree on scheduling.

The plant says that the agreement balances the needs of employees and economic realities.
