Governor John Lynch took to the new outlet mall in Merrimack today to promote New Hampshire’s lack of a sales tax.

Governor Lynch’s visit comes as Massachusetts is about to have a two day reprieve from its 6.25 percent sales tax.

Lynch praised state retailers for doing a good job promoting New Hampshire’s lack of a sales tax and stressed that retail sales are critical to the state’s economy.

About one in five New Hampshire workers is employed in the retail trade. We have a high concentration of retail jobs supporting our economy, and we have the highest per capita retail sales amount in the region, which is driven in large part by cross-border sales.

This weekend’s Massachusetts sales tax holiday will be its eighth in nine years

It’s one of many sales tax holidays going on across the country this August, a month when back to school shopping tends to increase retail activity.
