'Only in New Hampshire' Deep-Dive Series: The North Country

NHPR’s Only in New Hampshire—the ongoing series that seeks to answer questions about life in the Granite State—looks north for its latest exploration, with a series focused on the North Country.

The Only in New Hampshire team traveled north of the Notches to report on the major issues affecting the top of the state. Driven by questions from Granite Staters, the deep-dive reporting project aims to explore the Great North Woods with a look at a shifting economy, information access and the contentious topic of ATVs.

Episode schedule:

June 8: The scene is set with a simple question: what is the North Country? Where people think it begins and ends, and the issues facing folks from the White Mountains to the state’s Canadian border.

June 22: Tourism has become a major industry in the north. What does that mean for the region’s residents and visitors?

July 6: Tensions often flare over ATVs, with advocates promoting fun and an economic boost while opponents cite concerns over noise and dust. Some towns give riders free rein while others enforce restrictions.

July 20: With technology ever-changing, access to high-speed internet has become a key part of economic development.

Episodes of Only in New Hampshire air every other Saturday during Word of Mouth—beginning at 11 a.m. Tune in or find the stories online here.
