More people signed up this year for insurance through Healthcare.gov than last year. But that news comes the same day the federal government announced it accidentally sent incorrect tax information to 800,000 people who purchased plans on the website.
In New Hampshire, 52,944 residents bought insurance through the federal exchange during the enrollment period that ended this past Sunday. That’s about 13,000 more than last year.
But on Friday the feds also said the government sent incorrect tax information to 800,000 people nationwide who bought plans through the exchange.
And in another surprise move, the federal government also says Healthcare.gov will reopen for enrollments from March 15th to April 30th - right in the heat of tax season. The hope is Americans who did not purchase insurance for 2014 - and who will therefore take a hit on their taxes - won't get slammed with another tax penalty in 2015.
This year’s enrollment period had seemed much smoother than last year’s, when the federal website struggled to perform basic functions.
