Join us for the fourth annual Winterfest at Kroka Expeditions in Marlow, NH! Come experience the magic of winter on this fun, festive and adventurous day. Ski on our network of groomed trails, ice skate on the Kroka Pond, drink a cup of tea inside our cozy candle-lit winter expedition tent, attend a winter tracking workshop, snowshoe out to the Beaver Pond, cook bread-on-a-stick over the campfire, or take a sled ride down the best sledding hill in Marlow! Winterfest is family-friendly and is free and open to the public. Hot lunch and dessert will be available to purchase. Skis, skates, and snowshoes are available to borrow. (Snow date is Sunday, February 8).

Winter has set in and New Hampshire is once again blanketed in snow. Much of the wildlife that flourished in the warmer months is nowhere to be seen, but a stroll in the snow will reveal that there are many furry and feathered residents that stay here all year long! Join the Squam Lakes Association to explore the clues wildlife leave behind as they brave the New Hampshire winter. We will identify animal tracks and signs that can be found throughout the Squam watershed and learn how they can tell us about the health of our watershed! This is a perfect way for people of all ages to enjoy New Hampshire's chilly winter days.

Participants should come prepared with extra layers and boots or shoes for the snow. The SLA is committed to ensuring everyone can get outside in the winter - ask about our free gear library! Ready to get started with bird watching this winter? This beginner-friendly workshop teaches you all the essential skills for identifying the fascinating, hardy birds that call New Hampshire home during the cold season. You will learn how to identify common winter visitors and explore the different natural habitats and food sources where various cold-hardy species gather during the winter months.

Guided Tours of the Live Animal Trail
For ages 6 and up

What do the animals at the Science Center do when winter arrives? Bundle up and find out! Join one of our naturalists for a guided walk along the live animal exhibit trail to see our animal ambassadors sporting their winter coats. Discover the remarkable strategies these animals use to stay warm, find food, and survive the season. It’s a wild winter adventure you won’t want to miss!
A registered adult must accompany children. This program is all outdoors; dress in warm layers with insulated snow boots, hats, and gloves.

Food and fire, nature and art, indoors and outdoors, community connections and fun!

On Saturday, February 7, join Chocorua Lake Conservancy (CLC) and Tamworth Outing Club (TOC) for Winter Fest, a fun day and evening of outdoor and indoor activities in Chocorua. Bring your family, bring a friend, or come meet some new ones!

Winter Fest begins at 10 AM on Saturday morning at Chocorua Lake with a Cold-Water Dip and Sauna with the local year-round dipping group, the Tamworth Otters. By donation. Thank you to White Mountain Sauna Haus for the sauna! If you’d like to dip and sauna, please register at chocorualake.org/events, or come along to watch the fun.

Winter Fest: From 1–5 PM, as weather and conditions permit, we’ll have sledding, trails for x-country skiing and snowshoeing (bring your own sleds/skis/snowshoes); Chinook/sled dog expo; winter stories by the fire with storyteller Andy Davis at 2 PM and 4:30 PM; Winter Songs of Joy and Connection for all ages with Dexter & Lucy at 3 PM & 4:15 PM; a cold water dipping expo with the Tamworth Otters; a water quality display with CLC Stewardship Director Debra Marnich; winter tree ID with Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm; make your own Valentines with Arts Council of Tamworth; try rag rug making with Tamworth History Center; make bird seed balls with MWVEG; a plant ally winter hydration center with Tamworth Community Nurse Association, as well as bonfires, treats, & hot drinks. By donation. Please register at chocorualake.org/events.

We’ll also have a silent auction with art, wonderful local experiences, and handmade items from 1–7 PM. All auction and event proceeds will benefit the Tamworth Outing Club and Chocorua Lake Conservancy.

Winter Fest Dinner Dance, advance tickets only. At 5 PM, we’ll head indoors for beer & wine by donation; cocktail hour music by the Winter Festivarians; a delicious supper provided by The Farmstand (vegetarian & dairy- and gluten-free options) and dessert; and at 7:30 PM a traditional dance with the Winter Festivarians and caller Jennifer McHone Villalobos. No experience necessary! The caller will guide you through jigs, reels, square dances, circle dances, waltzes, and more. This kind of dancing is a long tradition in Tamworth. Tamworth Outing Club has been hosting dances since 1937, the second oldest continuously held dance in New Hampshire.

Tickets are required indoors from 5–9 PM for supper and the evening dance: $10 for kids (6 and under are free); adults are “choose your price”: $25, $50, or $100. Please choose your ticket price based on what you are routinely able to pay for meals out and cultural events. Evening ticket sales help support free afternoon events for everyone, and sliding scale tickets help us make events accessible. Any net proceeds will support TOC's many community activities for children and everyone, and CLC's protection of and care for land in the Chocorua Lake Basin and all-ages educational programs. Please register in advance; this event sold out early last year, and tickets will not be available at the door. Storm date is Saturday, March 7.

The Chesterfield Lions Club will host its 31st annual Super Bowl Pancake Breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026, at the Chesterfield School, 535 Old Chesterfield Rd., Chesterfield, NH, 03443.

Breakfast tickets are $9 (free for ages 5 and under) for a meal that includes pancakes, real maple syrup and butter, baked eggs, bacon, sausage, muffins, fruit, coffee, hot chocolate, milk and fruit juices.

Tickets may be purchased in advance from a CLC member and at the door on the day of the breakfast.

The breakfast is one of two major, annual fundraising events that allow CLC to serve Chesterfield, its school and the greater Cheshire County community. Some of those activities include performing annual vision screenings for all Chesterfield School students; providing financial assistance to students with vision impairments; awarding multiple $2,000 scholarships to college-bound Chesterfield students graduating from Keene High School; installing American flags on utility poles in Spofford, Chesterfield and West Chesterfield; funding renovations to Wares Grove Beach; and supporting outdoor education, recreation, and technology initiatives at Chesterfield School.

Additionally, the club annually supports several Cheshire County non-profit organizations through donations and service, including Hundred Nights Inc., Feeding Tiny Tummies, CASA of NH, Colonial Theater, Rise for Babies and Family, Chesterfield Public Education Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

The club meets monthly from September to June on the first and third Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the Camp Spofford Dining Hall, 24 Route 9A, Spofford, NH 03462. CLC has been active for more than 40 years and is a member of Lions Clubs International, an organization with more than 1.3 million members and 45,000 clubs, making it the world’s largest service club organization.

ETZ HAYIM SYNAGOGUE SUNDAY FAMILY CAMP
Sunday, February 8, 2026, 10:00 AM to Noon – Etz Hayim Synagogue will hold its monthly Sunday Family Camp for ages 4-6. This month’s theme is Purim! February’s class will focus on Purim in preparation for the holiday in March. Children will learn about the Purim story (using an age-appropriate text) and how we celebrate this fun holiday. Come celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire with special musical guest, Mr. Aaron! Come play in the museum exhibits, make special Valentine’s Day themed crafts, and join in a dance party from 2:00–2:30pm with award winning children’s musician Mr. Aaron.
