N.H. Tourism Conference To Highlight Foodie Culture and Changing Weather

The Governor’s Conference on Travel and Tourism is hoping out-of-state experts can help in-state businesses attract more visitors.

The annual conference, taking place in Concord on Tuesday, features speakers from Massachusetts, Vermont and New Mexico who will share ideas for how they lure visitors to their respective states.

The event will also have break-out sessions on creating culinary-oriented destinations, attracting more cultural tourism, and how businesses can adjust to changing weather patterns.

“When you are in the ski industry, and the snow doesn’t come, how do you get through that? What’s the messaging you get out there so that you don’t have a completely dead winter?” says Gregg Pittman, Chair of the New Hampshire Travel Council, which organizes the event.

He says along with unpredictable weather, New Hampshire tourism’s other biggest threat is competition from neighboring states.

Tourism is the second biggest economic sector in New Hampshire, accounting for nearly 70,000 jobs and $5.3 billion worth of spending.

Governor Chris Sununu is expected to address the conference, which attracts several hundred attendees each year.
