The Air Force says it will study whether people stationed at Pease Air Base in recent decades got cancer at unusually high rates.

Former service members have been calling for a study like this for more than a year.

 

The Department of Defense says a member of the U.S. Air Force from New Hampshire has died in a non-combat-related incident.

The death of 24-year-old Staff Sgt. Albert J. Miller of Richmond, New Hampshire, at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar was announced Saturday.

The incident that led to Miller's death Friday is under investigation.

Miller was assigned to the 736th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware. He was supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

Pease Air National Guard Base said goodbye to the oldest individual plane in the U.S. military’s inventory Sunday.

Hundreds gathered to watch the end of an era, as an old KC-135 Stratotanker mid-air refueling plane took off from the base in Portsmouth for the last time.

  President Donald Trump has nominated Keene native and former Republican Congresswoman Heather Wilson to serve as Secretary of the Air Force.

Trump made the nomination Monday.

Wilson, a Keene High School graduate, is currently president of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

She represented New Mexico in Congress from 1998 through 2009.

If confirmed, Wilson would be the first Air Force Academy graduate to hold the post, according to a White House statement.
