Senate Budget Writers to Pitch Their State Spending Plan to Lawmakers
Senate budget writers will be pitching their version of the next state spending plan to lawmakers Tuesday morning at the Statehouse.
The full Senate are scheduled to vote on the budget Wednesday.
Republican leaders say they’re confident their version of the state budget will clear through the full Senate.
They say their spending is in line with inflation and includes increases for mental health and substance abuse services. It also calls for further cuts in the state’s business taxes.
All of which will likely be discussed at Tuesday’s presentation.
But Democrats are not fans of the plan. They say the budget doesn’t do enough to address the state’s backlog for developmental disabilities services, provide enough money for job development, or do enough for the state’s universities.
A final state budget is due June 30th.
