Progressive Groups Launch N.H. Campaign Aimed At A Warren Presidential Run

Two progressive groups – Democracy for America and MoveOn.org – launched a campaign in New Hampshire this weekend to urge Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren to run for president.

On Saturday, around 75 fans of Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren packed a small conference room in one of Manchester’s mill buildings. Many held signs that promoted a presidential candidate as much as it did a populist cause.

Organizers say Warren would amplify her party’s left wing voice. They say she’s made income inequality, student debt, expansion of social security, and tighter banking regulations key issues in her first term in office.

"Together, our organizations are committing one and a quarter million dollars backed by the grassroots power of more than nine million members to show Elizabeth Warren she can get into this race and she can win. At a time when middle-class families are not feeling the benefits of the economic recovery, Granite Staters are hungry for Elizabeth Warren to get into this race."

In the coming weeks, the two groups plan to hire a campaign director for New Hampshire, recruit volunteers and hold house parties around the state.

Warren has repeatedly said she has no plans to run.
