Fish and Game responded to two calls for help over the weekend in The White Mountains, one involving a five-year-old who fell and hit his head and the other a woman suffering a sudden illness.
Both, however, turned out to be minor problems.
The first call was Saturday for a 36-year-old woman from Hawaii who was reported to be seriously ill on the Franconia Ridge Trail, according to a release from Lt. James Kneeland.
Rescuers were sent up to the ridge – including conservation officers and volunteers from Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team– and after the woman had a chance to rest and drink fluids she was able to walk down the mountain.
Kneeland said this highlights the need for hikers to be properly prepared, including carrying enough water.
The second call occurred on Sunday when Troop F got a cell call reporting a young boy had fallen near Middle Sugarloaf Mountain and struck his head on a rock.
Then, the cell connection was lost, Fish and Game Conservation Officer Glen Lucas wrote in a news release.
Rescuers were called and the Fish and Game officer who first reached the trail hiked up and discovered the boy was in “high spirits” and suffered only a small cut on the back of his head.
The family said they tried to call and cancel the rescue request but couldn’t get the call through.
