N.H. Lawmakers Propose Ban On Nearly All Flavored Vaping Products

State lawmakers are considering a bill that would ban all flavored vaping products except for menthol in New Hampshire stores.

The move follows work by a bipartisan group of lawmakers this year that raised the age for vaping and smoking to 19 and made it illegal to vape indoors.

Rep. Jerry Knirk (D), who co-sponsored that anti-vaping legislation and is behind the flavor ban bill, says the state still has a lot of work ahead to get teenagers to stop vaping.

“I approach this from a public health point of view,” he said. “We should be doing everything we can to get teens to not vape.”

A recent study by the FDA showed that menthol and mint were among the most popular flavors among teenagers who vape, but Knirk says his bill makes an exception for those products because they also appeal to existing smokers who may be vaping to quit combustible cigarettes.

Massachusetts recently banned all flavored tobacco products, including menthol. Governor Sununu has said he doesn't plan to ban the sale of any vape products, and the state is already working to reduce teenage vaping by raising the smoking age.
