The Governor has called an emergency Executive Council meeting Friday morning to address a key drug treatment provider in Manchester that recently went under due to financial problems.
According to court documents, Serenity Place in Manchester was running a deficit of more than half a million dollars.
A neighboring provider, Families in Transition, agreed to take over last week. But in order to keep services afloat – they will likely need more state dollars.
Serenity Place is the sole provider for the city’s Safe Station Program, which allows anyone with a substance abuse problem to walk into a fire station and get help. It’s seen more than 2,000 people since last year and the program has been praised by lawmakers as a key player in the state’s drug epidemic.
Executive Councilors Friday will figure out the price tag for keeping the services going. But discussions on offering more state oversight in the future are also likely to come up.
