Mont Vernon's Alex Preston Among Eight 'American Idol' Finalists

Mont Vernon’s Alex Preston could soon be one step closer being the next American Idol.

The Souhegan High School graduate is among eight finalists vying for the coveted title.

Preston, 20, will perform on the show tonight at 8 p.m.

Another singer will be sent home from the competition Thursday night, when the voting results are announced.

Preston has been active on Twitter, interacting with fans, posting pictures, and talking about his experience.

“Thanks so much y’all. Please vote. This is my dream. Let’s do it!”

There’s no doubt his hometown is behind him.

More than 100 people rallied in front of the Mont Vernon General Store Saturday morning.

Chunky’s Cinema in Nashua will open its doors tonight for an “American Idol” viewing party.

There’s no charge for admission.

Watch Preston perform No Doubt's "Don't Speak."
