N.H. To Receive New Round Of Federal Grants To Fight Opioid Crisis

Associated Press

Trump administration officials announced Wednesday morning that New Hampshire will receive more than $26 million in a new round of federal grants designed to combat the opioid crisis.

The bulk of that money, about $22 million, comes in the second installment of a State Opioid Response grant that was originally approved by Congress and awarded to New Hampshire in 2018.

Trump administration officials also announced a new three-year, $3.6 million grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for New Hampshire. That money is designed to help New Hampshire health officials gather data on the opioid crisis that might lead to new strategies to address it.

White House advisor Kellyanne Conway told reporters on a conference call Wednesday morning that the grants represented the Trump administration "supporting those closest to those in need."

In a written statement, the Governor’s Advisor on Addiction and Behavioral Health, Dave Mara, said the new funding will allow New Hampshire to build on what he says is already "a model for the rest of the nation."
