Independent Counsel

Robert talks with Ben Wittes, who covers the Justice Department for the Legal Times, about Attorney General Janet Reno. Reno is expected today to submit her recommendations regarding the appointment of an independent counsel in the current campaign-finance investigations. Wittes, who has been following how Reno has interpreted the laws and regulations that surround usage of the independent counsel statute, says that Reno has been willing to appoint counsel in the face of opposition from both the President and the Republicans on Capitol Hill.
