Voters at a presidential campaign forum about climate change Thursday night say the issue still isn't getting enough attention.

The event, at yogurt-maker Stonyfield's factory in Londonderry, featured Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan and former Maryland Congressman John Delaney, both Democrats.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee had been slated to appear, but ended his climate-focused campaign earlier this week.

Voters like Elizabeth Deutsch, a nurse from Vermont, worry the issue will remain sidelined in the race.

John Delaney is a former Congressman from Maryland who's running for the Democratic presidential nomination. He first announced his candidacy almost two years ago after Donald Trump won the 2016 election, and he's been in the Granite State several times since.

Morning Edition Host Rick Ganley sat down with Delaney to chat about his candidacy and views on where the Democratic Party is headed.

(Below is a transcript of the NHPR interview.)

Former Maryland Congressman John Delaney says the 2020 election is going to be "fought in the center."  The Democratic presidential primary candidate spoke on NHPR's The Exchange about several platforms he believes have bipartisan appeal, including a carbon tax, a comprehensive immigration reform package, and a plan for universal healthcare that includes options for private or supplemental insurance.

Former three-term Maryland Congressman John Delaney announced his run for the Democratic nomination in July 2017, the earliest of any candidate--a move seen as unusual even as candidates trend toward announcing earlier. Delaney casts himself as a moderate and says if elected he would sign only bipartisan legislation in his first 100 days as President.  He has said he will focus on what he believes matters to most Americans: jobs, wages, and opportunities for their children.

Former U.S. Rep. John Delaney is among 15 —by latest count— Democrats running for President.

Delaney was the first Democrat to announce a bid for the party's nomination; he wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post in July 2017 declaring his intention to run.
