COMMUNITY FOREST MANAGEMENT PRESENTATION, FRANCONIA
Thursday April 9 5:30-7:30 PM Franconia Town Hall. The Ammonoosuc Conservation Trust is hosting a public discussion to present the 840-acre Cooley-Jericho Community Forest (CJCF) draft management proposal. ACT Executive Director Rebecca Brown, consulting ecologist Jesse Mohr, and other CJCF Stewardship Team representatives will give brief presentations on forest management, wildlife, educational use, and trails. 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, LITTLETON
Friday and Saturday April 10 & 11, and 17 & 18 at 7:30 PM and Sunday April 19 2:00 PM. Littleton Opera House, 2 Union Street. Presented by the Upstage Players, this Tony award-winning musical chronicles six young spellers that sing about the rules as spelling bees can also be unfair. To win a spelling bee depends a bit on luck of the words as well as skill, and the contestants have all kinds of bizarre and hilarious methods for how they remember to spell. MEN AT WORDS, HAVERHILL
Friday April 10 7:30 PM, cafe opens at 6:30 PM, Court Street Arts at Alumni Hall, 75 Court Street. Three of the world’s finest songwriters and most respected singers, Jez Lowe, Archie Fisher and James Keelaghan have decided to take their friendship on the road. Master guitarist, singer and songwriter, Archie Fisher is Scotland’s foremost troubadour. Jez Lowe has built an enviable reputation as a songwriter and performer in the world of acoustic music, and as a recognized musical ambassador for his native North East England. SPRING DANCE WITH SLY DOG AT BETHLEHEM EAGLES CLUB
Friday April 10 8:00 PM - Midnight. Route 302 opposite The Rocks Estate. Sly Dog performs high energy classic rock and oldies dance music. The public is invited, the Eagle's Club has a great dance floor, and offers free snacks and great beverage prices. Guests who bring along a can or pouch of dog/cat food (to be donated to a local shelter) will be given a 50 cent discount on all beverages served. This time around, the nonsense on tap features McYankees (a new semi-fast food chain), Jack and the Baked Beanstalk, the Police Log (featuring actual items from the local news), Life’s Little Mystery Theatre, the Song on the Spot (a brand-new original song based on audience suggestions), prizes, surprises and more. As always, the Speed Bumps band will play favorite oldies and Fred Marple will bring the news from Frost Heaves, the most under-appreciated town in New Hampshire.
