State To Release Unemployment Figures For May This Week

The state is set to release new employment figures this week.

New Hampshire’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has remained at 2.6 percent for the last few months.

Economist Annette Nielsen of New Hampshire Employment Security says the employment picture has generally remained strong in 2016, though she says the issue of involuntary part-time workers has lingered even as the unemployment rate has fallen.

“The level of part-time for economic reasons is a little elevated compared to where it was pre-recession,” Nielsen says. “That’s an indicator that there are more people that still want more employment.”

The national unemployment fell in May to 4.7 percent, but economists say that was largely because many unemployed people left the labor force and stopped looking for work.
