State Working On Job Fair For Laid Off Osram Sylvania Employees

The state’s employment security office hopes to organize a job fair for the employees being laid off at Osram Sylvania in Manchester.

One hundred thirty-nine workers are expected to lose their jobs when the plant closes in September.

The lighting manufacturer is also closing facilities in Rhode Island and Pennsylvania.

Combined with Manchester, nearly 350 employees are expected to lose their jobs through the restructuring.

New Hampshire’s Director of Employment Services Pamela Szacik says her office is working to provide assistance to affected workers as quickly as possible.

“Helping prepare resumes, helping them get registered in our job match system to start looking for work prior to their separation. And one of the other things we’ve talked about is can we put together a quick job fair with other manufacturers in the area.”

The company says it’s making the move because of a declining market for traditional lighting products.

Osram Sylvania is one of the largest manufacturers in the state, employing about 1,000 people.

The company’s other facilities in Exeter and Hillsborough will remain open.
