On this Veterans Day, communities across New Hampshire are holding ceremonies, banquets, and parades honoring those who have served in the military.
Many events will start at or around 11:00 this morning, in honor of the holiday’s roots. Originally, Veterans Day was called “Armistice Day,” honoring the end of World War I on November 11th at 11:00, in 1918.
Manchester, Nashua and Lebanon will hold parades at that time. The Meredith veterans march and Peterborough parade begin a bit earlier, around 10:30.
The State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen will host an 11:00 ceremony with the Disabled American Veterans. U-S Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Congresswoman Ann McLaneKuster will deliver remarks at the event.
Following a flurry of activity, SeacoastOnline.com reports that Portsmouth’s new Memorial Park will be open to the public today. It features a granite fountain with slabs from the old Memorial Bridge.
And throughout the day, American Legion halls across the state will host a variety of events.
