Hassan To Nominate Former Sen. Joe Foster For AG

Courtesty of

Joe Foster preceded Maggie Hassan as State Senate majority leader and like Hassan, was known for working closely with former Governor John Lynch. Foster sponsored bills to crack down on sex offenders, led the Senate’s Judiciary committee, and, after leaving office, served as vice chairman of Lynch’s gambling commission, which warned against making gambling decisions based on “immediate fiscal, political, or other pressures." Governor Hassan says she never spoke to Foster about the casino bill she favors -- which is opposed by the current attorney general. She also says Foster’s lack of any background as a prosecutor should not disqualify him being the state’s top law enforcement official.

“Joe’s experience as a bankruptcy attorney and managing complex litigation and  managing a very large firm all are part of the reason I chose him. Mostly, he’s just a terrific person, lawyer and has a broad range of life experiences that will make him idea for this job.”

Foster manages the bankruptcy group at the McLane law firm, and is also a registered lobbyist. He is well-known and well-regarded in Concord, and represented Nashua for 6 years in the State Senate and 3 years in the House.
