Update, Jan. 31: LIVE: Murkowski's Thumbs-down All But Ensures No Witnesses in Impeachment Trial
Update, Jan. 30: Senators weighing impeachment charges against President Trump will spend Thursday firing off questions to trial lawyers, as they did the day before, just as the specter of John Bolton's appearance as a witness continues to stoke speculation.
Republicans would like Trump to be acquitted as soon as Friday, but Democrats are working behind-the-scenes to recruit enough conservatives to support bringing in witnesses to testify.
Update, Jan. 27: President Trump's defense team continues its work Monday in the Senate trial, while Democrats renew their demand that former national security adviser John Bolton testify, following a NYT story that Bolton writes in a forthcoming book that Trump told him in August he wanted to continue withholding close to $400 million in military aid to Ukraine until Ukraine agreed to launch investigations into former VP Joe Biden and his son. Trump has called that claim false.
