Special Coverage: Impeachment Hearings

NHPR will be carrying special coverage this week of the public impeachment hearings from Capitol Hill and related programming from NPR. NHPR will carry the hearings in their entirety, available on-air and streaming through

Special coverage begins on Wednesday, November 13, with the following schedule:

10 a.m. - Live coverage of the House Intelligence Committee hearing begins. Michel Martin will host, joined by NPR senior Washington editor and correspondent Ron Elving and Congressional correspondent Susan Davis. [NOTE: If the hearing extends into the afternoon, national political correspondent Mara Liasson and political correspondent Scott Detrow will join for further analysis]

Expected to testify:

  • William Taylor, U.S. chargé d’affaires for Ukraine
  • George Kent, deputy assistant secretary of state of European and Eurasian affairs, U.S. Department of State

8 p.m. – Special Report from NPR with recap and analysis of Wednesday’s hearing. Ari Shapiro and Audie Cornish will host, joined by other guests. This special broadcast will pre-empt 1A Plus in the 8 to 9 p.m. time slot.

Friday, November 15

9 a.m. - Live coverage of the House Impeachment Inquiry Hearing continues, hosted by Mary Louise Kelly and joined by Congressional correspondent Susan Davis and senior political editor/correspondent Domenico Montanaro.

[NOTE: should the hearing continue into the afternoon, NPR political reporter Tim Mak and senior Washington editor and correspondent Ron Elving will join the coverage]

Expected to testify:

  • Maria Yovanovitch, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine

8 p.m. – NPR Special Report with recap and analysis of the hearing. Audie Cornish and Ailsa Chang will host, with guests. The special report will preempt NHPR’s coverage of The Takeaway – Politics with Amy Walter in the 8 to 9 p.m. time slot Friday evening.

The House Intelligence Committee has announced further hearings for Tuesday, November 19; Wednesday, November 20, and Thursday, November 21 (times TBD). NHPR will continue to carry live coverage from NPR as events unfold.
