Building a Community Forest | Exploration of Chain of Ponds

Building a Community Forest | Exploration of Chain of Ponds

What's a Community Forest? Perhaps you've seen this term around, but aren't quite sure what it means. The Community Forest program of the US Forest Service "offers a unique opportunity for communities to acquire and conserve forests that provide public access and recreational opportunities, protect vital water supplies and wildlife habitat, serve as demonstration sites for private forest landowners, and provide economic benefits from timber and non-timber products." Our Chain of Ponds Community Forest project, as the name suggests, is a soon-to-be Community Forest to be acquired in the late fall.

From 2:00-3:00pm on Forester Dan Stepanauskas will be leading an exploration on this property, guiding us through its unique landscape and pointing out the special characteristics that make this area worth preserving.

Directions: Head to Forest Drive Rd in Madison, NH. Drive 0.5 miles up the road, and you'll see land trust signs on your left.
