Celebrating 30 years of 'The Golden Compass'

This month marks the 30th anniversary of the U.S. publication of Philip Pullman‘s “The Golden Compass,” the first book of what would become his best-selling fantasy trilogy, “His Dark Materials.”

Host Indira Lakshmanan speaks to Pullman about the book’s inspiration and themes.
