Redheads In Fiction And Fact

This week, some rather bizarre news out of Britain got our attention. Mark Colborne, 37,  has been ordered detained indefinitely under Britain’s Mental Health Act for plotting to kill Prince Charles. Colborne has said in his writings that he is part of a “red-haired victimised minority.”

Are redheads victimized by the assumptions people make about them? And just what are those assumptions anyway?

Jacky Collis Harvey has collected stories, scientific facts, and artistic renderings concerning her hair coloring in the book “Red: A History of the Redhead.” We revisit her July conversation with fellow redhead Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson.
