Some advocates of forgiving Greek debt have pointed to what they call hypocrisy on the part of Germany, one of the main opponents of Greek debt relief, because Germany itself benefited greatly from forgiveness of much of what it owed creditors after World War II. One of those forgiving creditors back then was Greece.
But is it fair to compare Germany’s post-World War II debt forgiveness to Greece’s current situation? Timothy Guinnane, a professor of economic history at Yale University joins Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson to discuss this.
