Here at Word of Mouth, we spend a lot of time researching, recording, and listening to wonderful – and sometimes weird – audio. Today, a new installment of “Overheard.” This time we pull in some NHPR colleagues to share some of the best examples of sound the internet has to offer – some healthy curiosity required.
Then, a Pokebattle for the ages. Two teams duke it out over whether Pokémon go helps or hinders the experience of being in the natural world – and tussle over who has the right to decide that.

Overheard: July Edition
Overheard is an opportunity for us to share some of the audio that catches our respective ears. For this month's Overheard, we cast the net wider to get audio picks from other folks we work closely with here at NHPR. Sam Evans-Brown, host of Outside/In and Sara Plourde, Digital Producer and Designer joined in with their favorite audio this month.
Here's where you can learn more about The World According to Sound and Baltimore: The Rise of Charm City.
More Than Just Houses
Urban renewal was a federal program introduced after World War II with the aim of clearing so-called slums from cities, and making way for improved infrastructure and commercial development. The areas most likely to be affected were the city’s working class, African American, and immigrant neighborhoods. Georgia Moodie has the story of how urban renewal affected the Italian community of Portland, Maine.

The Pokemon Problem
Well, it's official....Pokémon Go is a full-fledged phenomenon. In a week since its release, the augmented reality game has more daily active users than Twitter and more audience engagement than Facebook. If you've been in a public space this week, you have definitely seen people walking around and holding up their phones to snap virtual monsters. The game has been praised for getting people outside and moving around - something naturalists and public health officials have been trying for years.
But when it comes to developing an appreciation for the outdoors, will Pokémon Go make a dent? To find out, Sam Evans-Brown, host of NHPR's podcast Outside/In sat down with Maura Adams, Program Director at the Northern Forest Center and Gray Chynoweth, Chief Operating Officer at Silver Tech (plus, producer Taylor Quimby could not help but join in).
