The two-term senator, who has been behind in the polls, recently met the 65,000 donor mark. Gillibrand has more than a decade of experience in Congress and the highest percentage of women donors. We ask Gillibrand about paid family leave, gun control, her version of a Green New Deal, and abortion rights.

Meet the Candidate: Senator Kirsten Gillibrand
Age: 52
Background: After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1988 and UCLA School of Law in 1991, Gillibrand worked as a private attorney and law clerk. Before running for elected office, Gillibrand served as Special Counsel for then Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Andrew Cuomo and also played a key part in Hillary Clinton’s 2000 Senate campaign. Gillibrand has never lost an election in her political career: she ran an underdog campaign in a conservative district in upstate New York in 2006 and defended that seat in 2008. Gillibrand was appointed to the N.Y. Senate seat vacated by Hillary Clinton in early 2009 and has held the seat ever since.
Platforms/positions: Gillibrand supports Medicare For All and hascampaigned on the ideaas far back to 2006. She has run on protecting working families by keeping jobs in America and pushing for paid family leave. So far in her campaign, Gillibrand has shared beers with constituents, appeared on a Fox News Town Hall and released her tax returns before any other candidate.
Of Interest: During her years as a corporate lawyer, Gillibrand worked on thedefense team for Philip Morris, helping the tobacco company to fend off a federal perjury investigation. She is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the UCLA School of Law and served as a law clerk on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
