Jeff Bauman Among Guests to Join First Lady for SOTU

New Hampshire native and Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman will be among the guests sitting with first lady Michelle Obama during tonight’s State of the Union address.

Carlos Arredondo, a spectator who helped rush a badly injured Bauman from the scene of the April 15, 2013, attack, will also be among the more than two dozen people invited to join the first lady in her viewing box for the president's speech.

Bauman, whose father, stepmother and two half-brothers live in Concord, lost both legs in the attack and later played a crucial role in identifying the bombers. A now-famous photograph from that day shows Arredondo, wearing a white cowboy hat, helping Bauman toward an ambulance while holding a makeshift tourniquet. The two men have since become good friends.

According to the White House, guests invited to sit with the First Lady "exemplify the themes and ideals laid out in the President's speech.”
