Manchester School Board Members To Get Common Core Update

Manchester school board members will get an update on the district’s implementation of the Common Core state standards at a committee meeting tonight.

District administrators will give an overview of the changes at the meeting, which starts at 6:30 at City Hall.

Several residents raised concerns about the new standards at a meeting last month.

The school board has given Superintendent Debra Livingston the authority to implement changes this year, but did so on the condition they would get more information.

The Common Core is a set of English language arts and math standards. New Hampshire is among 45 states and the District of Columbia to adopt the standards.

Meanwhile, conservative groups Americans for Prosperity and Cornerstone Policy Research will co-host a forum on the impact of the standards Tuesday evening at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics.

That forum gets underway at 7.
