N.H. Towns Honoring Overdose Awareness Day

Churches and recovery centers across the state gathered today for Overdose Awareness Day.

New Hampshire has the second highest rate of drug overdose deaths in the country, the majority from fentanyl.

Jessica White is with the Keene Serenity Center. She says the media attention on opioid overdoses overshadows the realities of alcohol overdoses, and the amount of people who survive overdoses.

White organized tonight's overdose awareness vigil in Keene.

"The focus for us tonight is acknowledging and understanding that loss is part of the epidemic we're in, she said. "But that there are thousands of overdose survivors that need to see that there is support, that they're not alone."

The vigil will include a training on how to use narcan, the opioid overdose reversal drug, as well as talks by those going through recovery.
