MUUSIC 4UU PRESENTS! ORGANIST PETER SYKES
Muusic 4UU is thrilled to welcome internationally acclaimed organist Peter Sykes in a recital of baroque and classical compositions performed on the historic E.G.&G Hook Organ housed in the Peterborough Unitarian Universalist Sanctuary. This marks a long awaited return for Mr. Sykes, who dedicated the organ in recital following the 2004 restoration of the instrument, which was installed in 1867.
Mr. Sykes is preeminent in the field of Historical Music. He serves as Chair of the Historical Music Performance Department at Boston University and as principal instructor of harpsichord at the Julliard School of Music, in addition to serving as Director of Music at First Congregational Church of Cambridge. As a member of the board of the Cambridge Society for Early Music, he is a founding board member and current president of the Boston Clavichord Society.
Mr. Sykes will be performing compositions by Bach, Buxtehude, Mendelssohn, Scheidt, Bohm and Gade. Sykes’ playing has variously been called “compelling and moving,” “magnificent and revelatory,” and “bold, imaginative, and amazingly accurate.”
Please join us for what promises to be a glorious experience!
