Kittery Historical and Naval Society History Talks Lecture on the Hidden and Historic Tide Mills of Kittery
Kittery Historical and Naval Society History Talks Lecture on the Hidden and Historic Tide Mills of Kittery
Right in plain sight, but often not seen, are the most extensive remains of New England's colonial history. Dams that allowed tidal power to grind grain and saw lumber have hundreds of remnants all up and down the coast of Maine and there are at least five right in Kittery. The mission of the Tide Mill Institute is to discover and research the history of tidal power and investigate the future possibilities of this renewable and predictable energy resource. Bring your questions to this presentation and you might discover the remnant of a tidal dam yourself.
History Talks is a new lecture series featuring expert speakers sharing the stories of local people and places in Maine's oldest town. All events will be held at 7PM at the Kittery Community Center – Star Theatre, 120 Rogers Road.
Members of the Kittery Historical and Naval Society can attend free of charge. For non-members, a suggested donation of $5 is encouraged. Become a member and attend all four lectures in the series for free.
