Concord NH English Country dance

Concord NH English Country dance

Concord English Country dances resume Sunday 8 September with 2:30 English dance basics class then dancing from 3 to 6 to the music of Ishmael Stefanov Wagner and Jean Monroe with calling by Dave Bateman. The dress is casual / comfortable. However, clean soft soled shoes are requested to protect the wood floor. For safety reasons, high heel shoes should not be used.
English dances draw from the court and country dances of the 17th century through the 21st. It is a living tradition with the dances and corresponding music evolving with new compositions. There is a mix of tempos and rhythms in a typical program somewhat different from the contra and square dances that generally stay with jigs and reels. There are several contemporary dances done to classical music.

No experience is necessary. Each dance is taught before the music starts and the dance is prompted/called during the dance. The experienced dancers are eager to assist new dances in learning the dance figures. Also no partner is necessary. Come alone, with a friend or a group. It is the custom, but not a requirement, to chance your partner for each dance . This encourages making new friends.
