There seems to be am almost a daily drumbeat of terrorist attacks around the world each day, and new research puts real numbers on the death toll from those attacks.
A study by the BBC and the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation at Kings College London found more than 5,000 people died in jihadist attacks in the month of November alone. The researchers say the numbers paint an overall picture of an increasingly ambitious, complex, sophisticated and far-reaching jihadist movement.
Peter Neumann, a professor of security studies at King’s College London, spoke with Here & Now‘s Jeremy Hobson about the study. He put the death toll in this perspective:
“Remember the London attacks in 2005 killed 56 people. That’s almost as if there’s London attack three times a day every day,” he said.
