Where You Can Ring In The New Year In New Hampshire

First Night activities run the gamut in New Hampshire, from ski slope-side fireworks to major New Year's Eve celebrations, such as First Night Portsmouth.

Here's a list of some events and big ideas for your First Night, New Year's Eve, or New Year's Day:

First Night Portsmouth - Pro Portsmouth's party is open to all, with purchase of a ticket. Activities for this non-alcoholic event include street dancing from 5 p.m. to midnight, ice sculptures near North Church in Market Square from 1 p.m. onward, music at centrally located historic sites and centers, and fireworks at 7:30 p.m. at South Mill Pond. 

Claremont First Night: The Claremont First Night festivities include entertainment, tubing, skiing and ice skating at Arrowhead Recreation Area, horse-drawn carriage rides, and fireworks at Arrowhead at 10 p.m.

Currier Museum will hold its Noon Year's Eve celebration Dec. 31. The kid-friendly, art-friendly event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It includes art-making, outdoor activities, face painting, and entertainment. The museum is open to ticket holders, and there's a "huge balloon drop" at 2:45 p.m.

Celebrate in North Conway: Fireworks are scheduled to go off at 9 p.m. Dec. 31 at Schouler Park in North Conway.

Oceanside Fireworks: The Hampton Beach Village District is organizing a special New Year's Eve Fireworkson Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. The display will be between B and C streets off the boulevard.

The Children's Museum of N.H. holds its Family New Year's Eve Celebration on Dec. 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Organizers will have three "countdowns" to midnight: 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2 p.m. Noisemakers and party favors included in the price of admission.

Moonlight Snowshoe Tours: King Pine in Madison has its tours of the N.H. Audubon's Hoyt Wildlife Sanctuary at Purity Springs Resort.

On New Year's Day, the state Division of Parks & Recreation is hosting a free, guided hikes event. It's called First Day Hikes.

And, of course, at 1 p.m. on Dec. 31, the New England Patriots play the New York Jets.
