The International Ski Federation has selected New Hampshire's Waterville Valley Resort to host U.S. Alpine ski championships in 2019 and 2021.

The resort hosted the World Cup in 1991. But Waterville says this winter's championship could draw an even larger crowd, with Olympic gold medalists Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin expected to compete.

"We have such big excitement around here that we think the numbers we did from the World Cup in the late 80s, early 90s will probably pale in comparison to the numbers we'll be bringing in for this event," said Tim Smith, president and general manager of Waterville Valley Resort.

"I see all the videos from the World Cup, from when we had the World Cup here when I was a kid,” Smith said. “And it gives me the goosebumps to see them all coming back here."

Smith says Waterville will only need minor preparation to be ready for the championships, which are scheduled for March. Spectators will not be required to purchase a lift ticket to view the championship.
