New Hampshire Reacts To Yesterday's Boston Marathon Bombings

Yesterday, celebration turned to fear, concern and anguish for many Granite Staters who were running in the Boston Marathon, watching it, working it or just cheering on loved ones from afar. Several deadly explosions occurred  near the race's finish line creating pandemonium As of now 3 are dead, and about 140 are injured. Many frantically tried to search for loved ones to make sure they were safe. Today Granite Staters are scratching their heads in disbelief over how a tragedy like this could have happened, who did it and how this may affect the future of one of the world's most prestigious races. Today we check in with Granite Staters over this tragedy.

  • Cesar Rebellon - Criminologist and Associate Professor of Sociology at UNH. He teaches a course on terrorism and was in class yesterday when news of the bombing began to emerge.
  • Keith Shields – Executive Producer for NHPR’s Exchange.  He had finished running his sixteenth Boston Marathon yesterday about 90 minutes before the bomb blasts.

  • Steve Brown  - Reporter and host for WBUR who was covering the scene in Boston yesterday.
  •  Matt Fowler – Northwood resident who was about 40 yards from the scene of the first explosion. He works for AMI Graphics, which supplies all of the signs for the race.  

Laura is well known in New Hampshire for her in-depth coverage of important issues and is widely regarded for her interviews with presidential hopefuls. Laura is a graduate of Keene High School in New Hampshire. Prior to hosting The Exchange, Laura worked in public radio in Washington, D.C. as a local reporter and announcer for WAMU and as a newscaster for NPR. Before her radio career, she was a researcher for USA Today's "Money" section, and a research assistant at the Institute for International Economics. Laura occasionally guest hosts national programs such as The Diane Rehm Show and Here and Now. In 2007 Laura was named New Hampshire Broadcaster of the Year by the New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters.
