NHPR - New Interim Executive Director

NHPR Announces Selection of Mark Kaplan as Interim Executive Director

Will serve during national search for successor to retiring CEO Betsy Gardella

Marshall Rowe, chair of the New Hampshire Public Radio Board of Trustees, announced today that NHPR board member Mark Kaplan has been selected to serve as NHPR’s interim executive director. In making the announcement, Rowe stated, “We are fortunate to have someone of Mark’s stature and experience to serve in this role, which will ensure a smooth transition between Betsy Gardella’s tenure and the selection of a new CEO. Mark, who serves on the Planning Committee, is an ideal choice, and we are grateful that he has agreed to serve NHPR in this new capacity.”

Mark Kaplan was most recently the CEO of Alpha Loft, a New Hampshire economic development non-profit supporting entrepreneurs launching and scaling innovation-based companies in the state. He launched Accelerate NH, New Hampshire’s first accelerator program for startup companies, served on the Advisory Council of the NH Live Free & Start initiative, and is a strong supporter of innovation and the startup ecosystem.

Mark has decades of executive, venture capital, finance, and investment industry experience. He’s been active in the roles of board member, advisor, mentor, investor, and executive to numerous companies and non-profit organizations. Much earlier in his career, Mark was a reporter for an ABC affiliate in Flint, Michigan.

Mark earned an MBA from Boston University Graduate School of Management and BA from the University of Michigan-Flint. He also holds a Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

“I am honored to serve as interim executive director for an organization that plays such a significant role in the daily lives of many New Hampshirites,” Kaplan said, adding that “I am inheriting a thriving NHPR from retiring President/CEO Betsy Gardella, and I am committed to maintaining that status until an outstanding successor is selected.”
