Obama Says Romney Plan Is "Sketchy"

Josh Rogers, NHPR

President Obama tells crowd of 6000 in Manchester that Mitt Romney has failed to explain how he’d pay for his tax cut plan.

NH is the third swing state the president visited since Tuesday’s debate. And as soon as he hit the stage, the president told the crowd that Mitt Romney had whiffed when he was asked to explain the math of his proposed tax cuts.

"Listen NH, you’ve heard of the New Deal, the square deal, the fair deal. Mitt Romney’s trying to sell you a sketchy deal. You don’t need a sketchy deal.”

Mr. Obama added that the last time this sketchy deal was tried was during the Bush administration. The Romney campaign, meanwhile,  says the tax cuts Romney proposes will be paid for by economic growth.

I cover campaigns, elections, and government for NHPR. Stories that attract me often explore New Hampshire’s highly participatory political culture. I am interested in how ideologies – doctrinal and applied – shape our politics. I like to learn how voters make their decisions and explore how candidates and campaigns work to persuade them.
