The House is expected to take up Governor Lynch’s education funding constitutional amendment plan Wednesday.
House leaders say the proposal has almost no chance to pass.
Many rank-and-file House Republicans see Lynch’s amendment as a way to preserve court oversight over future education funding formulas.
That’s a non-starter for most.
House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt says the governor needs to understand that dynamic.
“We would like the governor to be able to have, in the form of a roll-call vote, a real sense of the challenges that we face in the House in trying to get something done on this issue.”
Bettencourt says, even if the proposal is shot down, House leaders are committed to finding a plan that meets with some bi-partisan approval.
Governor Lynch’s plan has been better received in the state Senate.
