Lizzi Marriott Investigation: A Timeline

Tuesday, October 9th, 2012: UNH student Elizabeth (Lizzi) Marriott goes missing. Her last cell phone activity was recorded at approximately 10 PM, when she told friends she was heading to Dover, N.H. 

Thursday, October 11th, 2012: Police start search for Marriott's body on Peirce Island near Portsmouth.

Friday, October 12th, 2012: Lizzi Marriott's family offers a ten thousand dollar reward for information in her disappearance. 

Saturday, October 13th, 2012: Authorities confirm Marriott's death, announce suspect taken in to custody. Candlelight vigil held at UNH.

Monday, October 15th, 2012: Mazzaglia arraigned for murder in Dover District Court, accused of strangling Lizzi Marriott. . 

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012: Patrol groups continue search off of Portsmouth coast for Marriott's body.

Monday, December 24th, 2012: A second arrest is made in connection with disappearance and alleged murder of Marriott. 19-year-old Portsmouth resident Kathryn McDonough arrested on charges of hindering apprehension or prosecution and conspiracy to hinder apprehension or prosecution.

April 10th, 2013: McDonough indicted on charges of hindering apprehension and witness tampering.

April 24, 2013: Indictments reveal detailsabout Marriott's alleged murder. 

July 25th, 2013: McDonough pleads guilty to aiding in the murder of Marriott and the subsequent cover-up.

September 26th, 2013: Mazzaglia indicted on charges of conspiracy.

October 3rd, 2013: Mazzaglia waives arraignmenton new charges related to investigation. Mazzaglia and McDonough allegedly used McDonough's cell phone to create fake text messages to cover-up the murder.

November 19th, 2013: Mazzaglia indicted on charges after allegedly trying to engineer a jailbreak. He is charged with witness tampering, falsifying evidence and soliciting someone for a jailbreak. 

February 11th, 2014: Mazzagglia and his lawyers claim some evidence collected before the suspect was read his rights and want it thrown out. 

May 21st, 2014: Eleven jurors selected for trial.

May 27th, 2014: On the first day of the proceedings, the jury in Mazzaglia's trial views Peirce Island, where the search for Marriott's body took place. Seacoast Online posted this video of Mazzaglia taking part in the view:

May 28th, 2014: Prosecutor Peter Hinckley requests mistrial saying defense attorney Joachim Barth made misleading remarks. The mistrial is denied. 

May 29th, 2014:  Prosecution builds evidence against Mazzaglia. Prosecution calls Nathan McNeal and Brittany Atwood as witnesses. Defense say that McDonough, not Mazzaglia, murdered Marriott. 

May 30th, 2014: Prosecution says that Mazzaglia killed Marriott after she rejected him. A mistrial requested by defense is denied.
