N.H. Supreme Court Upholds Convictions Of Woman Who Let Son Drown

The state’s highest court has upheld the convictions of a Manchester woman found guilty in the drowning of her 1-year-old son in a bathtub.

In a ruling issued Friday, Supreme Court justices dismissed the arguments of Jessica Botelho that there were errors made in her trial, saying evidence of her guilt was overwhelming.

Botelho was accused of leaving her two sons, ages 1 and 2, alone in the bathtub in 2010 for more than half an hour.

The younger son drowned and the older son suffered brain damage.

She was convicted of manslaughter, negligent homicide and reckless conduct and sentenced to 5-10 years in prison.
