Job Fairs Aimed At Helping Those Affected By Supermarket Closures

The state’s employment security office is holding a series of job fairs, following the closure of a dozen New Hampshire supermarkets over the summer.

Director of Employment Services Pam Szacik says the goal is to help the roughly 1,100 employees affected by the closings find work.

“These are all employers that have positions available and are looking to hire. So they want to come dressed appropriately with their resume and have some questions that they wish to ask some of these employers.”

Shaw’s announced last month that it would be closing six New Hampshire locations.

A week later, Stop and Shop announced it would be closing all six of its Granite State stores.

The first of four job fairs is being held at the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Manchester on Wednesday.

Job fairs will also be held this week at the community college in Nashua on Thursday and the school district office in Exeter on Friday.

The fourth is scheduled for next week at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Tilton on Tuesday.

All four job fairs run from 10 to 1.
