A Quarter Of Total Telegraph Staff Laid Off

The new owners of the Telegraph of Nashua newspaper laid off a total of about 25 staffers Wednesday, according to Michael Power, the community outreach administrator in the states’ Office of Workforce Opportunity.

Last week, employees were asked to reapply for their jobs. 8 people from the newsroom were not rehired. That’s nearly a quarter of the news staff and a quarter of the overall company that’s been cut. The paper had a staff of 99 people. The Office of Workforce Opportunity held a meeting with about 20 former Telegraph employees to assist them with unemployment programs and job searches.

The Telegraph’s President and Publisher, Terry Williams, previously announced that he will be stepping down by the end of the week. The new owners will take over on Monday.

Ogden Newspapers of West Virginia acquired the daily newspaper earlier this month.
