PSNH To Change Name To Eversource Energy

The parent company of Public Service of New Hampshire says it and its subsidiaries will collectively change their names to Eversource Energy.

The move has been in the works for months and the utility company has kept the rebrand under wraps. However, a newspaper in Connecticut noticed that the company moved to trademark the moniker back in September. The official launch of the brand is scheduled for February 2nd.

“Consolidating our brand was the obvious next step for us as we continually strive to improve energy delivery and customer service to our 3.6 million electricity and natural gas customers across the region,” wrote Tom May, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Northeast Utilities, in a press release.

The name Public Service of New Hampshire has been around for nearly ninety years, ever since several small electric companies and the Manchester Traction, Light and Power Company were consolidated in 1926. Northeast Utilities purchased PSNH in 1989, shortly after the utility had declared bankruptcy.

Other Northeast Utilities subsidiaries include NStar, Connecticut Light and Power, and the Western Massachusetts Electric Company, among others.
