PORTSMOUTH – The New Hampshire Art Association announces “Thinking of Home: Memory and the Domestic,” the 44th Annual Jack Parfitt Photography exhibition.
Portsmouth, NH – In honor of the late Dr. Jack Parfitt, a distinguished adventurer and accomplished photographer, we are thrilled to announce a visually stunning photography exhibition with the theme "Thinking of Home: Memory and the Domestic." This remarkable showcase will delve into the concept of home, taking viewers beyond the domicile and into the intimate, emotional, and nostalgic places that resonate in us all.
About Dr. Jack Parfitt:
Dr. Jack Parfitt was renowned for his adventurous spirit and keen eye for capturing life's most poignant moments. He spent over a decade traveling the globe. His passion for photography led him to embark on captivating journeys through Russia, China, Afghanistan, Morocco, Iceland, and Africa. Among his many achievements, Dr. Parfitt was granted unparalleled access to photograph the awe-inspiring Great Wall of China, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire photographers today.
Alisa Swindell, Associate Curator of Photography at the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, will serve as juror. She has envisioned this year's theme as a beautiful juxtaposition to the wanderlust-fueled adventures of Dr. Jack Parfitt. Rather than focusing on distant travels, she chose a theme that delves into the profound notion of home, prompting us to contemplate whether we can find a sense of home within ourselves even as we explore and embark on adventures.
"Working alongside such a thoughtful and esteemed curator has been an absolute honor,” said Amanda Kidd Kestler, Executive Director of the NHAA. “Photographers have interpreted the theme she conceived in diverse and thought-provoking ways.”
This exhibition, which has been made possible by a generous sponsorship from Red River Paper, Image Arts, and The Photosmith, will be held in the Main Gallery of the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery from August 3rd to August 27th. The NHAA is hosting a reception on Friday, August 4th, from 5 pm to 8 pm as part of the Art Around Town First Friday art walk in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
