GUIDED TIMBER HARVEST TOUR AT THE SOCIETY FOR THE PROTECTION OF NEW HAMPSHIRE FORESTS’ HAY FOREST RESERVATION
NEWBURY, N.H. (Feb. 5, 2025)— Join the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests and UNH Forestry Educators for a special guided tour of the timber harvest at the Forest Society’s Hay Forest Reservation at Sunset Hill in Newbury. The tour will be held on Saturday, February 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will learn how the Forest Society chooses which trees to remove and which to grow, how to address forest health issues, and how to take climate resiliency into consideration when making forest management decisions.
“The Forest Society plays an important role as a statewide land conservation trust and forestry organization with over 196,000 acres under our protection,” states Wendy Weisiger, managing forester for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. “Our goal is to share good information about practical considerations of an active winter timber harvest. This is an opportunity to meet the staff foresters, consulting forester and logging contractor, and to learn about the many considerations, science, and environmental impact for a successful harvest. Increasing forest resiliency, habitat diversity, recreation, and income are all important considerations in managing our forests.”
The free harvest tour will be guided by Forest Society staff, a licensed consulting forester, and UNH Extension Forestry Educator.
Pre-registration is requested for the free tour.
